Principal, Gratts Primary Center
It seemed like it would only be a matter of time before Juan Carlos Ramirez found his way to Para Los Niños. Years ago, while studying for his teaching credential and obtaining his Master’s degree, Juan Carlos met four Para Los Niños teachers who told him about the mission of the organization and the special commitment we have to serving our children. Juan Carlos decided right then that he wanted to be part of PLN. He applied for a position, interviewed, but didn’t make the final cut. Undeterred, Juan Carlos kept one eye on PLN, waiting for the right opening, while he spent four years teaching with Bright Star Charter Schools in Los Angeles.
During his time with Bright Star, Juan Carlos went from a teacher to Dean of Student Affairs, where he handled all disciplinary affairs for the school. In his position as Dean, Juan Carlos learned that, “it’s never about a system of punishments, it’s about the relationships you build with the students to find out why they were acting out. Understanding this made me a better Dean and a better teacher.”
Juan Carlos serves as Principal for Gratts Primary Center. His vision for the school is “to continue serving the community, doing the best that we can and growing the leadership here, from teachers to office staff.”
