9/10/12 A Little of Your Time Makes a Big Difference!

We're happy to announce that Reading Partners, an organization whose goal is ensuring that children have the reading skills they need to reach their full potential, is partnering again with Para Los Niños. Reading Partners will train and supervise volunteer reading tutors for our elementary school children.

Now we have to help make this happen by volunteering our own time, or soliciting others to volunteer as Reading Partners tutors. Tutoring requires no experience, and Reading Partners makes it easy by using a structured lesson plan and an on-site supervisor. Scheduling is flexible, and you can volunteer as little as one hour a week.

That time will make an amazing difference. California is dead last in children's literacy. But Reading Partners has an 85 percent success rate in improving reading skills.

The tutoring will take place at our elementary school at 1617 East 7th Street. Volunteers must be willing to devote at least 45 minutes once a week between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. You'll have a 30-minute orientation, and a fingerprint check and TB test (for which we'll pay) is required.

To volunteer, contact Anna Huizar, Reading Partners Para Los Niños Site Coordinator, at (213) 201-2000 x200 or ahuizar@readingpartners.org.
