STUDENT & COMMUNITY SERVICES
The most widely cited and statistically valid risk factors that hinder a child's success are: poverty, race and/or ethnicity, parental education, and primary language.
Two or more of these risk factors markedly diminish a child's chances for success because he or she is even more likely to experience the following: stressful family environment, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, teen pregnancy, mental illness, community violence, unstable housing, and unemployment. Tragically, Para Los Niños’ clients experience two or more of these risk factors. Yet, the combination of both direct and indirect services we provide to more than 1,100 students and their families each year are preventing them from becoming another statistic.
