Skid Row’s Para Los Niños Announces Fiesta Para Los Niños Gala 2017 Honoring Univision Los Angeles, Sony & Netflix Original Series, One Day at a Time

Los Angeles, May 1, 2017—Para Los Niños (For the Children), Skid Row’s longest standing nonprofit organization announced today its Fiesta Para Los Niños Gala slated for Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 6-9:30PM. Receiving the evening’s top honors include the media network Univision – Los Angeles 34 (Partner of the Year) and the Norman Lear, Sony/Netflix Original Series, One Day at a Time (inaugural Vanguard Award). The show’s lead, Justina Machado, serving as the evening’s emcee.
The event brings together notables from the corporate, philanthropic, foundation, and entertainment industries. Para Los Niños and its Board of Directors present the anniversary gala for the 36th year, with past honorary trustees including Jane Fonda, Angela Lansbury & Ricardo Montalban.
Tina and Rick Caruso once again serve as presenting sponsors of the annual event. “Our relationship with Para Los Niños’ children and families is one of the greatest blessings in our life,” said Rick Caruso. “These amazing children are the future of Los Angeles and we couldn’t be prouder to support this outstanding organization.” The Tina & Rick Caruso Child Development Center at Para Los Niños provides infant, toddler, and pre-school care for over 70 children.

All proceeds raised during the Fiesta Para Los Niños Gala are directed to the year-round family services the organization provides. Since 1980, Para Los Niños has worked to uplift impoverished Los Angeles children through education, wrap around social & health services, and resources they need to build a brighter future. Para Los Niños believes in the whole-child approach to meet the needs of students and families by keeping high expectations and outcomes for students as a central focus, while addressing any mitigating factors of poverty, trauma and readiness.

Justina Machado can currently be seen starring as the lead in Netflix’s highly reviewed reimagining of Norman Lear’s ONE DAY AT A TIME opposite Rita Moreno. Additionally this year, Machado appeared opposite Gina Rodriguez in the fourth season of the CW comedy series, JANE THE VIRGIN, and voiced the character ‘Carmen’ in Disney’s animated series, ELENA OF AVALOR.
